Happy New Year Again!

Well still the first day of the year.

Nothing happened today either, or wait... No... no something did happen, i will make it happen now. I've got a story to write. I very nearly lost it earlier today and started writing, but now... now as i started writing this post, closer to end than finish of said day, i thought "why not do it now?"

And so, it is time.

lets see. You start in the chaos of a dragon attack and get hit in the head by an unknown object, you wake up on someones back with chains on your arms and legs only to scream from the painful headache which gets you knocked out again by some villainous thug.

After this you wake up in a cell in a semi-underground prison cell somewhere in the relatively northern parts of the kalhiri desert, your cellmate who is sleeping on the floor is a succubus girl your age, and you notice a health potion and of course, cold.

Now you can choose to drift off to sleep thinking about your past (i.e. your characters childhood in brief which collides with a decent chunk of Yrja's story and will be the first introduction to her.) up to the point of the dragon's attack.

You wake up, and the story begins. Two (minorly different) possible beginnings depending on whether you shivered yourself to sleep on the bed or curled up against the demoness.

Which leads to plotting your escape. I hadn't shared much more than that had i? nor will i ^_^ not in this much detail anyways. For example, this dragon attack is something i had come up with for Yrja's Torment like waaaaaaay back, but never shared. it's a part of Yrja's story where Yrja and Riye get separated. I think it's cool how this developed.

Now i don't have to write down what exactly happens next, but rather what roughly happens next. This will be based on several things, mostly what features i want in the game.

Features? Why simple!

Basic Dungeon Crawling, RPG experience. Something simple like Raidy or Demon Master Chris.
Multiple Choices each having an effect (or else they'd be pretty pointless right?)
Good Story (hey, i do my best)

I'm thinking this game will stick to Kalhiri and only Kalhiri, i.e i'm not planning to go to cestaria or magdolon with this game like had been planned in Yrja's Torment. (Alfinil too, where it was meant to end)

So what will kalhiri have to offer in that regard? what do we find in deserts?
Mines
Buried Locations (Can be anything! castles, cities, catacombs, simple caves... Library is a common choice. If cities can be buried in sand (and they can) i'm sure anything can be buried in a desert.)
Castles
Towers
Caves

Well, not working full time again yet so i relaxed watching moretsu pirates, there was one particular event that i want to finish up the game with, or rather want you to finish up in the game. The anime didn't show me how to do it, but the idea of how exactly to do it hit me while i was watching the ending (cus i sometimes do that :I)

Very good, this was actually what i found most intimidating about the story, "how" to do this particular thing. This is a very simple basic idea, but very hard for me to write in the end.

I have written down the high concept of how the "????" (faction) will come to exist. Thanks for helping me form this idea Moretsu Pirates! this alone is good progress for today. Along with thinking up locations where i could possibly do dungeon crawling in a desert. I can tell you right now though, the first dungeon crawled through will be chanced upon by accident and crawled through despite whether Riye wants to or not.

But i want to do a bit more though. The initial plan for the game was to have Zinth convince some random Fel'du to crawl through dungeons for him and eventually slay a dragon for some rewards. But that is such a shallow plot :I

I actually love what i have planned, i played a lot of games, watched a lot of movies and they usually either lead to saving the world, saving one person or the episodic type that ends practically where it started (i.e. nothing significant that has an impact on the world happens)

But what i have planned is much more... well... i don't even know a good word for it. But i can say that you don't save the world, you don't save everybody either. In fact i planned to make the "government" do something that will have an effect on the plot (government does something positive that ends up making complications for your protagonist) that the player will not have anything to do with, not really. It's an interesting plot twist really now that i think about it. But yeah, you achieve great things, but in an attempt to avoid spectacle creep, you don't save the world, you just have a slight impact on it. Riye is already an interesting enough character developed, but the demoness needs to be good too and so far i haven't decided a single god damn thing in her personality.

Oh that's right, i need to decide the back story of how she got captured by slavers! Thankfully tainted necembel is the closest thing to the location apart from cestaria, since demons are rather intelligent they're also a very proud race, the standard demons that is (not the lesser or greater demons). Thanks to that, unlike humans they do mind if members of their own race are maltreated whereas they don't give two shits about what happens to others. They're usually the chaotic evil types though, so they generally wouldn't go out of their way to help out a fellow demon who has been enslaved, but if they were in a foul mood they might be so revolted with the person that has a demon slave in their own territory that they very easily might try to murder them. The enslaved demon wouldn't earn any points either for being weak or foolish enough to have been captured.

But due to that, keeping a captured demon slave in necembel is a bad idea. Going to Magdolon wouldn't be smart since the Garax are allied with the demons and while they don't mind slavery, they realize the importance of keeping demon slaves prohibited in their territory to keep the alliance going. And this works both ways so the demons will not allow Garax slaves in their territory either either.

This makes kalhiri a viable place to go, since they are priced higher in kalhiri than in cestaria, and when it comes to demons.. i doubt many would buy demon slaves in cestaria since humans are generally just scared of demons.

So, the base idea she somehow got captured in tainted necembel, had an anti magic slave collar strapped to her, and was shipped to kalhiri with a handful of other captured demons (girls and boys). In Kalhiri they met up with a few captured slaves of other races, and was then moved to the secret base where she meets Riye. Shady as they may be, the slave traders have certain policies so they do not do anything that could "damage the merchandise" to their slaves, i.e. the violence towards the slaves is very limited and more vocal than physical, if a slave is raped by one of the group members, that member is forced to buy the slave (or else...) to atone. Slaver groups tend to have principles like this to keep a certain level of reputation and respect among traders who might buy from them.

I'm making some lore progress here ^_^ That wasn't planned, but certainly isn't bad. This is good, now i just need to figure out how she was captured.

This is good progress for tonight. Relaxing for the rest of it!

It felt really good to write something down for the first time in a while. It really feels like the most meaningful thing i've ever done in my life. I recommend to anyone who has the guts to try it. Write a story, visual novel if you want (Ren'Py makes it super easy) you don't have to do it for money or fame (i'm not doing it for neither, i'm doing it because i just really... want to... for no good reason, it's a form of expression to me i guess)

It wouldn't hurt to try right?
