As i decided yesterday, today i'm starting off with no bullshit at full throttle. It was incredibly tempting to sit down and just play something but i decided to save that till after I've worked. Maybe i'll reward myself with pizza if i do well in the morning ^_^
Naturally i figured i should finish writing down what i've got on the Wiki into articy.
Note: Adding something from the wiki to articy automatically means improving the details about it while i'm at it. for example one word (like "Ratfolk" got translated into "Ryshu" and a whole lot of racial details such as faction relationships,)
lets see, checklist...
Continents: Done
Major Races: Not Done
Monsters: Not Done
Factions: Not Done
Items: Not Done
Skills: Not Done
Attributes: Not Done
Systems: Not Done
Lore: Not Done
Characters: Done (only characters on wikia are the gods, but i have some more chars in articy)
External Documents (Non-Wiki content): Not Done
Ok, lets see how far i get!
Note: I updated this "checklist" over the entire day since i started working, so this list roughly says all i did today, and when i look at it now after doing it it really was a lot!
Templates: Racial Template
Major Races: Done
Monsters: Minor Races
Factions: Done (Everything that's on the wiki(nothing really) + racial relations)
Items: Not Done
Skills: Done
Stats: Done
Attributes: Done
Systems: Not Done (leveling, spells, currency)
Lore: Partial (Some racial lore, and some lore for the gods, i also created a "general lore" container)
External Documents: Some
I started with the Races, first i created a template for them. This took like an hour or two, then i added them into the program... another two or three hours (of course much of this time is spent on improving the details)
This is a bit harder than i thought, i'm still not satisfied with how much i did, i was hoping to do more, in particular i was hoping to start working on a functional leveling system, currency, and HP/Damage balancing. But since i didn't really get that far in the morning, no pizza for me. :(
I did have a "Monster" instead though for some extra brain juice :Þ
Ironically when i was working on the Minor Races too (which are pretty much classified as monsters).
I also did some religious balancing, heres a list of how many races worship each deity by default:
Xandis: 3
Quiline: 4
Maton: 3
Zinth: 4
Agnostic: 2 (3)
In the case of agnostic, cross-breeds were counted as agnostic. the rest are the rest of the minor & major races, in the specials don't get counted (vampires & werebeasts) because even if they'll usually convert to Xandis worship after becoming whatever they do, they aren't a specific race, they're more like a faction if i think about it. Vampires are definitely confirmed, but werebeasts might not be. although i'm thinking i can do werebeasts if i do it like morrowind handled it, you just turn into some sort of monster against (or according to) your will at specific hours, that way i wouldn't have to worry about what race the player is playing as for werebeasts either. I think that's a good way to handle it, yeah!
Now i need to name the "Ratfolk" and "Snakefolk", they need to have a descriptive name that could work out as a faction or "clan" name... Well, the snakefolk are easy... "Lamia", but what about ratfolk, i remember Rattkin from wizardry, but i can't just re-use that can i? i also thought Rattus or just simply "Rats" but... hmm... huehue "Nosalies" (Metro reference) would be hilarious...
Allright, i've got it.. "Ryshu" combination of the Russian "Krysa" and chinese "Shu" I went from there to Kryshu, but then figured... "Ryshu" yup!
Next i did some minor races territory balancing (spread them evenly) the original plan was to have Ryshu in necembel, but seeing as necembel already has Dark Elves, Demons and Undead... they're lively enough over there, so instead i placed them on Alfinil which seemed to be the most dull place i've got (only wood elves, fae and sikruf so far). Jokland only gets snow elves, i thought about putting the Ryshu on there, but if i place furries in snow territory, then they'll need to be super fluffy, and i don't like the thought of that too much. Also there's plenty of things going on in Jokland already, Alfinil needs more stuff the most.
Necembel: 1
Alfinil: 2
Jokland: 1
Cestaria: 1
Magdolon: 2
Kalhiri: 1
Underwater: 1
If i count the major races in too
Necembel: 3
Alfinil: 3
Jokland: 1
Cestaria: 2
Magdolon: 3
Kalhiri: 2
Underwater: 2
Note: This is only "home continent" for example, Jokland is home only to snow-elves, but humans and undead are actively fighting for territory there too. You'll also find a lot of Fae in Magdolon, and Garax in Kalhiri, they're just not the natives there.
I also detailed the minor races a bit, it was fun... I've put some life spans in, for example max age for Ryshu will be 20 (rats breed fast, so we limit them with age) arachnes get up to 50 years, lamia get 80 years and merfolk get 60 years dwarves get 140 years, gnomes get 150 years elves don't die from age.
Major races.. lets see
Demon: Immune to aging
Fae: Resistant to aging and can't die from age
Fel'du: Resistant to aging can live for 400 years
Garax: Highly resistant to aging and lives for 1000 years
Humans: 130 years
Sikruf: 200 years
Undead: Immune to aging
I wanted to do some more detailed relations between the races... Then after doing them i realized i need to make sure there are no inconsistencies, but i'm too tired to work on that now Dx, so that's a "to do.."
A lot of work was done today, i'm proud! But i wanted to do more today. Well a wise man once told me that programming always takes 2x as long as you expect it to. I guess that also translates into concept work taking 2x as long as i expect it to. In my defense though, i was sleep deprived today too, instead of the 3 hours last night i got 5-6 hours of sleep tonight. Which naturally only kept me fresh for a few hours. But by the end of the day i had done... a lot of extra work, mostly implementing skills and stats, it's kind of uncomfortable because articy doesn't actually have a container for that sort of work, it has an entity container (for objects, like items & characters or monsters) and it has a flow container (for story, quests, lore, etc) but it doesn't have anything for keeping your head around the leveling system, currency, factions or other subsystems of your game. I might change ti all into a word document evnetally then load it as an asset into articy, but i'm currently just using the flow (storyline) system to keep the attributes and skills and stats all somehow lined up in one place. It works out "OK", better than what i had before on the wiki, and while i was at it i detailed a lot of the systems but i'll have to finalize it tomorrow sadly :(
